The film tells a definitive story of the life and legacy of the internationally renowned musician, revolutionary and legend through the eyes of those who knew him best. The film is rated C - 18yrs and Older in The Bahamas.
The Red, Gold and Green carpet premiere in Jamaica on April 19th saw thousands of patrons in attendance to see the film. Viewers watched the film in awe as the story of Bob Marley unfolded. The truly touching and at times comedic scenes left patrons teary eyed and proud of the man who brought reggae music to the world.
Directed by Academy-award winning British film director Kevin Macdonald, the 145 minute film is the only Marley family-authorized documentary on the life of Bob Marley. Just over 30 years after his death, the Marley family has consented to share the many realities about Bob, going beyond his legendary status to explore him as a man, who was by no means ordinary.
Bob Marley’s son Rohan Marley commented on the importance of the film, stating that his father is portrayed as a real man.
You can expect to see a man who started from nothing, a lone soldier, a lone warrior in the beginning...he’s a real man, he’s not a myth so it’s good that people can see that. He’s a real man who has done real things and it’s achievable through commitment and integrity for everyone. My father is that and if you watch my father you will see that,” said Rohan.
MARLEY also received rave reviews at its world premiere at the 2012 Berlin Film festival.
“The film was received brilliantly at its world premiere in Berlin in front of an audience of more than 2,000 people. The reviews were very strong and many in the audience said that they felt they now understood Bob for the first time after seeing the film,” Macdonald added.
MARLEY addresses many unanswered questions and mysteries through a series of sources and speakers. The film combines rare footage and incredible performances with revelatory interviews with his wife, children, musical colleagues, former band members and friends.
“This is the definitive film about one of the great cultural figures of the twentieth century - a man whose legacy only grows in importance with each passing year,” said Macdonald.
MARLEY debuted first in Jamaica on April 19, one day before its official “4/20” in the United States. MARLEY is a production of Shangri-La Entertainment and Cowboy Films and is Executive produced by Ziggy Marley and Chris Blackwell in association with Tuff Gong Pictures.
